CROASDAILE NOVICE
35 NEW TENNIS PLAYERS

The First Annual Croasdaile Novice Tournament was held August 5-7, 2005 at
Croasdaile Country Club in Durham, NC. Participants included boys and girls, ages 12-16, competing for the singles championship. Rebecca Rudder-Laughton, Tournament Director stated that she was “extremely pleased that our first tournament had 120 kids. Thirty-five (35) new players entered for the first tournament. Hopefully, we can continue our tournament and this will be a good experience for the kids”.

The USTA-North Carolina offered first time tennis tournament players a voucher this year to compete in a North Carolina tournament, if they had never played a sanctioned tournament previously. This has been a good ideas as you can see from the 35 players in the Croasdaile Tournament. Rebecca hopes that this event will “lead the juniors to many tournaments ahead”.

Parents in attendance agreed that this was one of the best tournaments. They enjoyed the location, felt it was well organized and well-run by the tournament staff and officials. There were smiles of excitement from the children, as well as some tears for their first time loss. All in all, you could tell that the journey was not over for these kids. The tennis bug had bitten, and the kids would be back.
