Nike
Junior Tour Champions
The Durham-Orange Community Tennis Association hosted
the Nike Junior Tour (NJT) Tournament for the Boys and
Girls 12s and 14s at the Annual DOCTA Open Junior Tennis
Tournament on August 18-20, 2006 in Durham, NC. DOCTA’s
NJT was one of five qualifying tournaments in the Southern
Section.
The
Nike Junior Tour is a world wide series of junior tournaments
sponsored by Nike. NJT tournaments are for boys and
girls 12s and 14s. Twenty-one participating countries
hold qualifying events that lead to National Masters.
NJT National Masters winners then compete at the International
Masters. There were 10 USTA Sections holding NJT qualifying
events for 2006. Winners at the local level went on
to competing in the USTA Southern NJT Section Playoffs
at Georgia Tech on August 26-27. The team, along with
10 Sectional teams, will be competing at the NJT USA
National Masters at Stanford University September 29-October
1, 2006; and then move on to Spain for the International
Masters.
The
local DOCTA winners of the NJT Tournament were: Boys
12s Singles Champion: Austin Ansari, Greensboro; Finalist
– Gregory Galush, Cary; and Semifinal Playoff
Champion: Kevin Le, Raleigh; Girls 12 Singles Champion;
Boys 14s Singles Champion: Le Nhien, Cary; Finalist
– Jeffrey Cobb, Raleigh; Semifinal Playoff Finalist
– Bradley Dobbins; Girls 12s Singles Champion:
Kennedy Womack, Ashland, KY; Finalist: Tyler Baker,
Fayetteville; Semifinal Playoff Finalist: Jamie Rogers,
Cary; and Girls 14s Singles Champion: Tamara Hill, Chapel
Hill; Finalist: Shannon Herndon, Blowing Rock; and Semifinals
Playoff Finalist: Chelsea Fuller. The following players
went on to compete in Georgia at the USTA Southern Sectional
NJT: Austin Ansari, Gregory Galush, Kevin Le, Le Nhien,
Bradley Dobbins, Kennedy Womack and Chelsea Fuller.
