The
Stay Fit and Healthy Tennis Program Underway
The Stay Fit and Healthy Tennis Program is designed
to promote better health, fitness and wellness through
proper nutrition education, exercise and tennis to support
a healthier lifestyle. The goal of the program is to
reduce the health disparities among African American,
Asian, Hispanic/Latino and Native Americans who are
at risk because of high blood pressure/hypertension,
cholesterol, diabetes, and obesity. The program focuses
on boys, girls, adults, and families who may be at risk
in the Durham-Orange County communities, and runs from
June 1, 2006 to April 2007.
Each
participant must complete 21 lessons of tennis and 15
minutes of stretching before play, exercise 2-3 times
a week for 30 minutes, and complete a nutrition education
workshop. Lessons are being offered in Durham with instructor,
John McLean, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 pm
to 8:00 pm; and Saturdays at 10 am – 11:30 am
at Rock Quarry Tennis Courts; Chapel Hill with Patti
Fox – Fridays from 12:00 to 1:30 pm; and Hillsborough,

STAY
FIT AND HEALTHY TENNIS PROGRAM
The
Durham-Orange Commnity Tennis Association has established
a new program called Stay Fit and Health Tennis designed
to reduce the disparities among African Amerians, Hispanic/Latinos,
Asians, and Native Americans as a result of high blood
pressure/hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and
obesity. The program is open to adults, youth, families,
and others who want to live a healthier lifestyle.
The
Stay Fit and Healthy Program promotes good nutrition
through nutrition education, daily exercise 2-3 days
and week, 15 minutes of stretches/warmup before tennis
play, and a minimum of 21 lessons of tennis for 2 days
a week (1 l/2 hour a day). The program runs from June
2006 to April 2007. If you are interested in learning
